    A Message Left By Friends

    Now that summer has FINALLY arrived, it seems there’s more talk about bike helmets in the media and blogosphere. A radio segment after my own heart, CBC Radio One’s High Velocity (a segment on the morning show, The Early Edition), focused on fashionable bike helmets and a group of friends called Prohab (image below of their annual fundraising calender). They give away bike helmets to honour a friend who has a brain injury due to a bike accident. That friend is Dan McCash. Dan suffered a brain injury as a result of a cycling accident. In his words, “I really do think I could have prevented my injuries. I could have worn a helmet — I owned one, but I didn’t – and I could have been sober.     Bike to Work Week
    It’s Bike to Work Week, everyone! Have you been riding to work? If you haven’t, you’re not alone. Many of us haven’t been jumping on two wheels to get us to our places of employment. Some of us simply can’t ride to work. The distance is too far, you can’t physically ride a bike, or there isn’t a decent bike route that can get you to work. Others don’t have a bike or just aren’t into biking. Then there are the people that don’t have any of these excuses but don’t bike because they see it as either dangerous or inconvenient.     Winner Image One

    The wait is over, contestants. A winner of the Put a Helmet on It Contest has been helmeted. Sanaz of Vancouver puts a helmet on it even if she thinks it doesn’t look good. Here’s her winning comment, drawn last week out of the number of comments submitted for the contest.
