Changing Attitudes: IN THE WATER

    Preventable Beach Towel

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while or are a B.C. beach bum, you might be familiar with our summer drowning prevention campaign. This year, we’re tweaking what we usually do in order to get people thinking more about their attitudes when it comes to drowning. As in previous years, we’ll be leaving branded flip-flops and beach bags on beaches across B.C., but this time around, we have a new slogan emblazoned on the beach towels we leave behind as a reminder that some people might not be able to reclaim their beach goods if they don’t take precautions in and around the water. I came across some info on the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit website that proved to me that I still have some more to learn about injury prevention in BC. Having bloggd on this topic for over a year now, I thought I knew most of what there is to know about the leading causes of fatal injuries in ourprovince. Well, turns out I’m wrong. If I was a betting man, which I’m not, I’d bet that you’d be as surprised as myself and the people I interviewed for this entry as to what’s killing people in this province. Don’t worry, it’s not all morbid. Once you learn what the most deadly injuries are in BC, you can help avoid them yourself and help others do the same. As you read this, I’d suggest you try to answer the questions yourself to test your knowledge. Please keep in mind that the answers to these questions are the result of injuries. Continue Reading…
