Woman riding her bicycle on the sidewalk

It seems to me that some of the effort we put into our infrastructure to make B.C. a more commuter-friendly and greener province could be better spent changing minds than changing roads. It’s been a couple of months since the ban on cellphones and other electronic devices while driving came into place. Now we’re starting to hear about people getting ticketed for violating the ban. Take this recent bust in Kelowna for example. Not only did the police slap the driver with a $167 fine for using an electronic device while driving, but the pull over also resulted in the driver having to go to the court house to explain the drugs and paraphernalia the RCMP discovered in the process.

It seems there are some teeth in this law, and violators are being held accountable. However, I’m sure many are finding that old habits die hard.

I don’t own a car of my own, so I don’t drive that often. But when I rented one the other day, I found myself texting in the parking lot.

I’ve been blogging about this ban since it was only an idea, and here I found myself doing what I’ve been telling others not too. Either I’m a little thick (very possible) or the habit of always checking my cell phone has become so ingrained that it’s automatic (also very possible).

Am I the only one who’s taking a while to get the hang of this ban? Has this ban on cellphones and other electronic devices in vehicles converted you into a non-distracted driver?
