While that’s usually a good thing, it can also lead to dangerous situations when left unattended in the home. Mike Tyson’s 4- year old daughter recently died after being strangled by the power chords of a treadmill while left unattended at her home.

Safe Kids USA cautions parents to look at all possible things their children can get into and take preventative measures, such as ensuring windows are secured and out of reach, flat screen TVs are mounted on the wall or far enough back so they can’t be toppled and all window cords and power cords are safely stowed away and out of a child’s reach.

But most of all, know how curious and smart your child is and keep an eye on them at all times. While things didn’t turn out well for the curious cat, you can make sure things turn out differently for your curious child.

(CNN) — The death of boxing champion Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter after a treadmill accident highlights the issue of hidden dangers in the home.

While most parents know enough about covering outlets and keeping poisonous household cleaning products locked away from the reach of their small children, most homes still have less obvious safety hazards that can have disastrous results for curious tots.

“Parents often overestimate their child’s intelligence, and underestimate their abilities,” explains Chrissy Cianflone, Director of Program Operations at Safe Kids USA, a nonprofit organization focused on preventing accidental childhood injury.
