The Abbotsford News reported earlier this week that accidental injury remains the number one killer of kids aged 1 to 14. The term ‘accident’ is thrown around quite a bit. Is it really an ‘accident’ when you don’t take the proper precautions, or is it a preventable injury that you’ll regret for the rest of your life?!

Putting your child into a booster seat will help protect their neck, spine and internal organs in case of a crash but too many kids are not restrained at all or put in a booster seat that’s the wrong size for their height and weight.

Strapping your child into an appropriate baby seat also means you don’t have to keep turning around and yelling at them to “Stop that!” and “Don’t hit your sister!”; so you can focus your eyes on the road ahead…and the soothing sounds of Kenny G on the radio.

Do you have examples where small children were not properly secured when driving?

Many people forget about airbags as well. Some children that fit a belt positioning booster seat may still be too small to ride in the front seat. The back seat is still the safest place in the vehicle for anyone, child or adult, during a collision.
