Great article in today’s National Post talking about the social paradigm shift needed to teach everyone to wear a helmet when riding their bike. Just as how it’s now second nature to buckle up when we get in a car, thanks to years of education, laws and lights on the dashboard that go ‘bing’.
Most importantly when it comes to kids is setting a good example. Do you buckle yourself up when driving in your car? Well then, why wouldn’t you wear a helmet when riding your bike?

Changing Behaviour; Appeal to good sense, fashion and otherwise

Published: Monday, June 22, 2009Parents don’t need a lecture on the wisdom of wearing a bicycle helmet. It’s the kids who put up a fight. How are parents supposed to get rambunctious youngsters into the habit of donning a helmet when boarding a bike? According to experts, it’s best to give your child age-appropriate reasons for wearing a helmet, and to be firm and consistent by insisting it must always be worn. Lastly, (this should go without saying): Set a good example and always wear a helmet yourself.
